The Triumph Over The Mediocre Self

The Triumph Over The Mediocre Self

The Triumph Over The Mediocre Self

Normally, we come to the world from parents who are not educated in the way they raise us. Often, our parents dump their pathology on us, and keep us struggling in our lives to free ourselves from such burdens. Following that, we enter the outside world and we observe a lot of dysfunctions in society. We then continue to sail through the journey of our lives with painful dysfunctions. We become confused, frustrated, less happy, and disappointed in ourselves and in the world around us, because we have not being taught or guided to discover who we are, and to know our true essence. We have not been provided the right tools to manage our lives effectively. The way we learned to do things is merely trial and error. Furthermore, among all other species, human beings take longer to be independent from parents or caregivers. We need more time to mature so we can rely on ourselves. Therefore, a book such as this can be useful to guide us through the labyrinth of our lives.

The Pitfalls Of Being Human

The Pitfalls Of Being Human

The imperative question presented in this book is: Can our mind obey us when we do not like the thoughts which cross our mind? If we try to stop disturbing thoughts, often the mind will do the opposite, dwelling on those thoughts, and defying our wishes. Artists get rid of all unnecessary materials to form an art object. Likewise, we need to get rid of all the unnecessary conflicts which keep swimming in our mind, and hold onto the essential part of life. In other words, we polish our inner psyche, by cultivating the garden of our mind and removing all the weeds. We as humans have the capacity to clean the landscape of our mind and bring a different set of emotions to the scene. That is how we progressed from animalistic sensations to being creative individuals.

Contemplative Thoughts In Human Nature

Contemplative Thoughts In Human Nature

This book has investigated numerous phenomena of human destructive behaviors, and we have seen how much such behaviors have contributed to human suffering, agony, and aggression. And we try to answer why we behave destructively. There are myriad answers to that. But the most prominent answer is when God created the universe and humankind, the first program that was instilled in us was the human wicked, or destructive, inclination, before anything else. So since God the Almighty instilled in us such a wicked program, then we are doomed from the start. You may go further and say that it’s unfair that we come to this world with a bad start. As the existential thinkers put it intelligently, our existence is merely a cruel trick.

The Psychology Behind Wellness And Illness Why Do People Get Sick

The Psychology Behind Wellness And Illness Why Do People Get Sick

There is an abundance of scientific research indicating that 85% of all diseases have an emotional component, like feelings of anger, apathy, depression, resentment, which weaken the immune system and therefore damage our health. On the other hand, positive thoughts of love, humor, joy, resiliency and compassion support good physical health. Every thought, whether positive or negative, has physical consequences, for better or worse, on our health. The wisdom in this regard states that illness is a conspiracy cooked up in the unconscious mind and manifested in our bodies. It is no longer a question of staying healthy; it is a question of finding a sickness you like to serve an internal unconscious purpose, an “illness manual” if you will. You may choose one that attacks the body part you are most uncomfortable with, or don’t like, just to serve unconscious negative feelings.

The Sly Mind

The Sly Mind

The basic concept of this book is there is no scientific study more vital to man than the study of his own mind. This book is a comprehensive attempt to explore most of the facets of the human brain. It is necessary to understand our mind, because happiness and suffering co-exist within the mind; their origins are not to be found outside the mind, if we want to find lasting happiness. Moreover, our unconscious mind or even the conscious mind becomes the garbage bin of society. Society throws trash on you, and it becomes part of your psychological makeup. It is fascinating to see a flood of magazines trumpeting the latest theories about how to be physical fit, and lose weight. While we do not see magazine about how to sharpen your thinking, how to enrich your mind skills, this book provides you with the clear understanding of the nature of thinking and tools to manage the complexity of the human mind.

Excess And The Mean In Early Modern English Literature

Excess And The Mean In Early Modern English Literature

This book examines how English writers from the Elizabethan period to the Restoration transformed and contested the ancient ideal of the virtuous mean. As early modern authors learned at grammar school and university, Aristotle and other classical thinkers praised "golden means" balanced between extremes: courage, for example, as opposed to cowardice or recklessness. By uncovering the enormous variety of English responses to this ethical doctrine, Joshua Scodel revises our understanding of the vital interaction between classical thought and early modern literary culture. Scodel argues that English authors used the ancient schema of means and extremes in innovative and contentious ways hitherto ignored by scholars. Through close readings of diverse writers and genres, he shows that conflicting representations of means and extremes figured prominently in the emergence of a self-consciously modern English culture. Donne, for example, reshaped the classical mean to promote individual freedom, while Bacon held extremism necessary for human empowerment. Imagining a modern rival to ancient Rome, georgics from Spenser to Cowley exhorted England to embody the mean or lauded extreme paths to national greatness. Drinking poetry from Jonson to Rochester expressed opposing visions of convivial moderation and drunken excess, while erotic writing from Sidney to Dryden and Behn pitted extreme passion against the traditional mean of conjugal moderation. Challenging his predecessors in various genres, Milton celebrated golden means of restrained pleasure and self-respect. Throughout this groundbreaking study, Scodel suggests how early modern treatments of means and extremes resonate in present-day cultural debates.

George Bernard Shaw A Very Short Introduction

George Bernard Shaw A Very Short Introduction

George Bernard Shaw has been called the second greatest playwright in English (after William Shakespeare) and one of the inventors of modern celebrity as the most famous public intellectual of his time. Beginning in the 1880s, as a critic and as a playwright, he transformed British drama, bringing to it intellectual substance, ethical imperatives, and modernity itself, setting the theatrical course for the subsequent century. That his legacy endures seventy years after his death is testament to the prescience of his thinking and his prolific creativity. This Very Short Introduction looks at Shaw's life, starting with his upbringing in Ireland, and then takes a chronological approach through his works. Considering Shaw's committed antagonism on behalf of a range of socio-political issues; his use of comedy as a mode for communicating serious ideas; and his rhetorical style that pushes conventional boundaries, Christopher Wixson provides an overview of the creative evolution of core themes throughout Shaw's long career. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area.
