Fangs Of Malice

Fangs Of Malice

Fangs Of Malice

The idea that actors are hypocrites and fakes and therefore dangerous to society was widespread in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Fangs of Malice examines the equation between the vice of hypocrisy and the craft of acting as it appears in antitheatrical tracts, in popular and high culture, and especially in plays of the period. Rousseau and others argue that actors, expert at seeming other than they are, pose a threat to society; yet dissembling seems also to be an inevitable consequence of human social intercourse. The “antitheatrical prejudice” offers a unique perspective on the high value that modern western culture places on sincerity, on being true to one's own self. Taking a cue from the antitheatrical critics themselves, Matthew Wikander structures his book in acts and scenes, each based on a particular slander against actors. A prologue introduces his main issues. Act One deals with the proposition “They Dress Up”: foppish slavery to fashion, cross-dressing, and dressing as clergy. Act Two treats the proposition “They Lie” by focusing on social dissembling and the phenomenon of the self-deceiving hypocrite and the public, princely hypocrite. Act Three, “They Drink,” examines a wide range of antisocial behavior ascribed to actors, such as drinking, gambling, and whoring. An epilogue ties the ancient ideas of possession and the panic that actors inspire to contemporary anxieties about representation not only in theatre but also in the visual and literary arts. Fangs of Malice will be of great interest to scholars and students of drama as well as to theatre professionals and buffs.

Malice Hates Fairy Tales 3

Malice Hates Fairy Tales 3

Malice has to save her friends from the fairy tale parasites infesting their souls. They have each been combined with the fairy tale that bit them. This has caused them to become hybrids—the Mad Hatter, for instance, is now half Cinderella. To drive the fairy tale portion out, Malice has to drive a stake through their hearts. So, ironically, to save them, Malice essentially has to fight and kill her friends—the Mad Hatter, Tweedle twins, Humpty and the Knight. Hopefully, afterwards, Wonderland will finally get back to how it was before the twisted fairy tales came around. Of Pathics And Evil

Of Pathics And Evil

Joseph Sguigna researched the subject of evil in relation to psychopathy for sixteen years, and his book Of Pathics and Evil is the culmination of that research. Mr. Sguigna's insightful approach to the subject of psychopathy differs from all other books on the subject from four standpoints: (1) it is a compilation of personal accounts from psychopaths themselves and from the victims of their destructive behavior; (2) he has cleared up the frustrating problem of distinguishing the differences between the psychopath, the sociopath, the narcissist, and the psychotic, and (3) he has consolidated these four terms under the inclusive term,"pathics." - He gives his wife credit for this inclusive term; (4) he has brought to the foreground an awareness of pathic behavior in both women and children, which has been mostly in the background of (psycho)pathic studies; and (5) he explores the phenomenon of the pathic character in relation to human evil through an extensive compilation of quotations by eminent persons on the subject of evil as inherent to human nature. It is a fascinating, wrenching study of both evil and pathics as it weaves in and out of the variations of pathic behavior. He saves the reader from sinking into despair on reading these graphic accounts by offering his own wisdom-philosophy derived from personal experience, extensive study, and intuitive insight. As his friend said of the book, "You've put morality into it." Readers will emerge from this book the wiser for it, with a deep and incisive understanding of both evil and pathic behavior that will assist them in recognizing, and protecting themselves from, the predators that invade their lives. For truly has Of Pathics and Evil struck at the root of evil in line with Thoreau's statement, "For every thousand people hacking at the branches of evil, there is one person striking at its root."

The Illusionist

The Illusionist

The Illusionist is the sensuous and haunting tale of Dean Lily, an amateur magician whose arrival in Sparta, New York, upsets the landscape of this small town on the wane. Dean, a master of the sleight of hand, is also a master of seduction and charm—which becomes apparent as he woos and wins the hearts of more than one of Sparta's female citizens. But the enigmatic newcomer has more to hide than the tricks of his trade—his mysterious identity as a transgendered person, and his closely guarded privacy arouse suspicion and jealousy—and while he cures Sparta of its midwinter ennui, he also unleashes a destructive force that rocks the foundations of this town to its core. Inspired in part by a true story, The Illusionist is a fiercely erotic novel that thwarts conventions of gender and love.
